Paws for Vets

The Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Southeast Texas has partnered with Sauver Des Chiens (Save the Dogs) German Shepherd Rescue.  This partnership helps to pair USMC Vets, FMF Navy Veterans and their families with companion dogs.
The Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Southeast Texas will cover the adoption fees for these pets, which includes all necessary immunizations and spay/neuter procedures that are required for the adoption to be approved.

March 2025 Pup of the Month

Meet Trip! Trip is a handsome German Shepherd between 12-17 months old, is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines and recently underwent surgery to have his back leg amputated. Trip is just the right size at 47lbs and has a beautiful disposition. He is a very handsome guy who spent a long time on the streets trying to survive. He can be a little skittish at first and would do best in a home with another solid dog. He takes a lot of cues from the two dogs in his current foster home and has learned to trust his foster Mom. Trip needs a home that will let him warm up to his people at his own pace. He's great with other dogs and kids, rides well in the car, is housebroken, crate trained, takes treats gently and walks well on the leash This fabulous guy is resilient beyond measure and is a survivor in every sense of the word. Trip will bond quickly with a patient owner and despite being a tripod, he is super healthy, happy and loves to run and play with other dogs. Trip is not an aggressive dog at all! He has no interest in being a guard dog at all and does not bark at the neighbor dogs. He is a lover, not a fighter despite him having to live on the mean streets alone and fend for his own food with a broken leg. Trips rebound after a back leg amputation is astonishing. His confidence is growing now that he can heal physically and emotionally in an environment of comfort and safety. With the help of his foster , Trip is learning to trust that nobody is going to hurt him anymore. He has been going on outings and meeting new people and warms up to pretty much anyone who sits down and waits for him to approach them when he is ready. He adores children. Even though Trip is less one leg, he still needs exercise and is up to walking a mile every day at this time. He walks great on a leash. Trip also enjoys taking all of the toys out of the toy basket. He has never been destructive and has been left alone and loose in the house many times with no problems. Trip is the poster child for resilience and second chances. He wants to be loved and to return his love to anyone giving him time to warm up a bit.

Adoption Process

At Sauver Des Chiens, adoptions are what allow us to keep moving forward. With each adoption, you are not only saving the life of the pet you’re adopting, but the life of the pet that can take it’s place. The adoption process may be tedious, but it’s to ensure that we’re properly matching dogs with compatible households. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Fostering a companion dog

Fosters are a critical part of our efforts at Sauver Des Chiens.
We do not have a facility, so we cannot take a dog in without an available foster home.  Without you, a dog’s chance of finding their forever home would not be possible. As a Sauver Des Chiens foster we welcome your input, and if you are just taking in your first foster we are here for you as you embark on this wonderful journey.
